I was honored to have another play day with Paul Gagon.  The drawings and information you see here is courtesy of Paul and are used with his permission.

This page will fill in as I have time.  You'll find all sort of stuff in here for G&L basses.  Wiring diagrams to technical dissertations on pickups.  You'll see new stuff and old stuff, Leo stuff and Paul stuff.

L-150x and Climax wiring diagram, hand drawn by Paul Gagon.  Note that this is the original circuit that carried over from the Climax to the L-1500 and L-1505.  Most of these older basses have the battery in circuit and discharging at all times, whether or not a cable is plugged in.  Late model L--1500 and L-1505 basses may be fitted with a jack that provides switching.  Old basses can easily be retro-fitted.

G&L L-2xxx and ASAT K Model Wiring Diagrams



Wiring diagram of the L-2000/2500/ASAT "K" model circuit.  Hand drawn by Paul Gagon as if looking into the control cavity.  Note that the "K" pickups, while wound like regular L Series pickups, have an extra blue wire.  This blue wire is connected to the base plate of the pickup.

Another wiring diagram of the "K" circuit, but with a very important difference.  Look carefully and you'll see that the pickup leads that normally connect to the coil switch are now connected to a printedcircuit board (PCB) which is, in turn, mounted to the coil switch.  This greatly simplifies wiring as well as cleans up thecavity.  It also helps make wiring the instrument less prone to error.  Hand drawn by Paul Gagon as if looking into the controlcavity.  It is not known whether this will be placed into production.

EXPERIMENTAL

A real view of the above.  Lookcarefully and you'll see that the pickup leads that normally connect to the coil switch are now connected to a printed circuit board (PCB)which is, in turn, mounted to the coil switch.  This greatly simplifieswiring as well as cleans up the cavity.  It also helps make wiring theinstrument less prone to error.  This was done on a Tribute bass, as evidenced by the preamp in the bag.  Note the loose wireslaying on the body.  These show the extra pickup lead length that was removed through the use of the switch PCB.

Here's a little something for all you circuit modders.  This is a passive"K" circuit - no preamp.  Standard G&L Tri-Tone passive EQ with a difference:  Rather than have an empty hole where theactive/passive switch goes, Paul replaced it with a DPDT ON-ON-ON switch (like the pickup select switch) that switches in three differenttreble caps.  This circuit can be used for non-"K" models as well.  Hand drawn by Paul Gagon as if looking into the controlcavity.
