I just realized I never posted obligatory photos of my L2500 Custom here, though I have in other posts...
Neck and body were produced June and August of ‘96. I have read that G&L usually assembled the parts and completed the instruments within a couple weeks of them being manufactured, so I guess that would make mine a ‘96 even though the L2500 was released for ‘97.
I am the original owner, purchased sometime in the Spring of 1997. Traded a 1994 Stingray 4 Fretless plus about $250 cash.
It has sort of become a “case queen” in recent years as I find it to be a rare bird, as this model (Custom) was built for 1 year only and each one was different. But every time I play it, I am blown away by its resonance and subtlety when I go easy on it. Absolutely an amazing instrument.
When I first tried one out, it was a trans-green Custom. I told the guy “I’ll take it”, but he says, “ hold on...this one is mine! I have to order one for you. What color do you want?”
“Can I get it in trans-blue?”
About a week or two later it came in, but I got Blue-burst rather than trans-blue. Good enough.
Alder body with book-matched Ash top, natural body binding. Back of the body is black, but looks purple in the sun.
The 4th switch was added in around 2016 or so for inner/outer coil pickup switching.
For some reason, I am only allowed to upload 3 photos...
