1981 G&L fretless

Postby Basssouthwest » Sun Dec 01, 2019 7:09 pm

I have a 1981 L 100 fretless Ebony board I'm wondering of anyone can compare this bass to a 1980 Musicman Stingray Fretless ? I would assume they are real close. I have the opportunity to buy a 1980 Stingray fretless neck only. Not sure if its worth it since I have the G & L fretless. Any opinions would be great

thanks

Are you asking if the Stingray neck will fit the G&L body? That is a no, the MM neck is rounded on the end like a Fender, the G&L neck is flat on the end.

Comparing the L1000 (which is probably what you mean) to a pre-Ernie Ball 'Ray.

If all you're comparing are the two necks, or more specifically the fingerboards, they will be quite similar. They both came out of the same factory in roughly the same time frame. It's likely that the same people built both. That's pretty much where any similarity will end. Way different basses, way different sounds.

Thanks Ken that exactly what I was talking about I assumed the necks are quite the same 81 G & L to a pre-EB Musicman

Just remember that I said "or more specifically the fingerboards". The necks themselves will be somewhat different and would not be interchangeable.
