Mmmmmm....Verdict still out.

This bass is tuned down a half step for one of the gigs I play regularly (70's cover band). I may have mentioned that before. Just keep that in mind.

The E string (which is now Eb) feels pretty darn floppy. Would it be better tuned up a half step with that extra tension? Probably. Other strings feel pretty good, though.

One other thing is the active vs passive tone. Passive mode is kind of "dead" to my ears. Very meh. Active mode pretty much cures that 100%, but with the stock strings I really liked both passive AND active modes. Different flavors, but both good. With the DR flats.....Not so much.

Keep in mind that these are well used DR flats. And of course YMMV, IMO, etc etc.

OK. I changed my mind. Verdict is in. Just talked myself into going back to the stock strings!

After thought: I'd prolly like a set of bright flats on TBBITW. Or at least flats with a little less bottom and more mids/upper mids. I bet TI's would sound really great. But the price! And the low tension! Can't hang with either.

Cool, thanks for the input. Makes me lean a little more toward the La Bellas, though curious about their low tension flats vs. their standard DTFs in, say, light gauge. Not looking for floppy strings, but not looking for steel cables, either.

Sorry I can't figure out...
I have a L1500 4 strings bass. Did it comes with SIT powerwounds or D'addario nickel wounds ?
thanks ! :-)

If it was built in the very early 2000s, it may have come with SIT strings. I don't have the date when the change to D'Addario noted and I don't recall, other than early 2000s.

So I am replacing the TI Jazz Flats that have been on my L2500 fretless for like 10 years. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't I need to string through body? I'm asking because I wanted to try the GHS Pressurewounds, but even the XL set is too short.

I am now considering DR Sunbeams, unless stinging up top through is okay.

If you don't want to string thru-body, you can do this.
