G&L Bass Sound Clips

This is the main discussion and technical forum for G&L and Tribute by G&L basses. Please limit the discussion to G&L and Tribute by G&L. Simple questions regarding mods are okay, but really belong in the EBA or Paul's Technicalities.

Please; no links to other forums except as noted in the forum guidelines. Discussion of new instrument MSRP is okay, as is discussion of options pricing. However, there shall be no discussion of MAP or final negotiated pricing for new instruments. Used pricing is generally fair game.

No sales or advertisements, no matter how well veiled, are permitted - not even a pointer elsewhere.

G&L Bass Sound Clips

Postby Ken Baker » Thu Jul 05, 2012 2:54 pm

We'll start a thread for sound clips of G&L basses here.

Please understand that I must be very sensitive to copyright holders. What this means is that all posts MUST have permission to post the clip(s) from the performing artist or the publication sourcing the clip(s). The ONLY exception here will be clips from G&L.

I'm also very sensitive to proper attribution - credit where credit is due. So I'll ask that if we know who's playing the clip, we give them credit for having done so. They deserve it.

Linking clips from YouTube is okay pretty much as-is. Please just link in good clips. Be sure to Preview a YouTube clip if you've embedded it using the BBCode. If the clip complains that it won't play here because it is restricted, please don't bother with it.

If you have questions about this, please PM me.

Thanks!

Ken...

SOUND CLIPS

There is a review of the MIA M2500 by Dan Veall right here:
http://www.iguitarmag.com/magazine-editions/iguitar-magazine-issue-13/reviews/gl-tribute-series-m2500-bass-review/
It's wrongly named 'Review of the Tribute M2500', but it's actually for the US version (white body, rw neck, check the back of the HS on pictures: the G key is slanted compared to the Tribute).
The text doesn't say much that I did not know before, and I noted even a few mistakes, including in the video.
http://licklibrary.ceros.com/iguitarmag/guthrie-govan-guitar-interactive-magazine-isse-13/issue13/page/132
There is a 8:42 minute video, that is good enough to listen to a variety of sounds.

My MIA M2500 will arrive in a weeeeeeeek!!!

Hey all.

Click on the link here for a sample of a 1997 G&L L-1500 bass in performance: http://www.bassesbyleo.com/images/fathe ... edited.mp3
This song (abreviated for this forum) is "Girls On Dope" by my band Stingray - an original tune which I cowrote.

Click on the link here for another sample of a 1997 G&L L-1500 bass in performance:
http://www.bassesbyleo.com/images/fathe ... ky_ska.mp3
This song is "Spooky Ska" by my band Stingray - an original tune which I cowrote.

The L-1500 in these recordings is a stock instrument played through a Trace Elliot SM-series amp. The soundman ran a DI from my amp to the board of the local campus radio station for live broadcast. This is a digital recording of what went directly to air - as faithful as possible to what the audience heard at the gig and on the radio.

These are good representations of what a G&L L-1500 bass actually sounds like in context of performance.

Not an especially good song, but a cracking bass tone from an SB-2

Edit: I clearly haven't got to grips with the html tags yet.

Fixed it for you.

Not HTML, actually. It's called BBCODE.

All you need to enclose in the YouTube tags is the video ID.
