What is an MJ4?

Postby jglunt2112 » Wed Feb 03, 2021 10:01 am

I was passing the time doing some "window shopping" online and came across a used G&L MJ4 bass on a reputable website. I'd never heard of that. It doesn't pop up when I do a search on this forum. It doesn't show up on the G&L website. The only photo of the bass on the website took in the whole bass, so it wasn't easy to see any of the details about it. Has anybody heard of this?...Jim

Short-lived model that was essentially the M-2000 body/neck with hum canceling Jazz pickups and a slightly tweaked M-2000 3-band preamp (just to accommodate the lower output of the Jazz pickups). Controls were Vol, Blend, Bass/Mid/Treble boost/cut. Available in 4 string US and Tribute models and 5 string US model.

Short lived? Aah, man.

I considered the MJ4 a really cool bass.

I liked living in a world in which buying and playing my own MJ4 was possible.

Hmm...

Thank you both for your replies. If you really want to own one, there are two for sale on a popular re-sale website...Jim

Thanks for the info, Ken. I often tend to step in brown smelly stuff, so I lean towards caution. But there is a beautiful blueburst MJ-4 currently on Reverb. Unfortunately, the shipping to the US is high as it ships from Japan. But even just looking at it is pleasurable. It's a beauty...Jim
