Replacing the Neck on an L2000

This is the support forum for G&L and Tribute by G&L basses. Please limit the discussion to G&L and Tribute by G&L.

No sales or advertisements, no matter how well veiled, are permitted - not even a pointer elsewhere. Discussion of pricing of used instruments (What's It Worth?) is perfectly fine so long as it doesn't turn into a sales feeler. However, as per G&L policy, there can be no discussion of new instrument pricing. Please contact your favorite dealer and kindly keep the quote to yourself.

Looks sweet!

Questions on the process....
Did you ship them just the body?
For the $500 did you get a new set of tuners or did they have to reuse your old ones? (and therefore ask you to ship them)
If your bass was new enough to have the serial on the neck did you get the same serial? (can't tell from your photos)
If your headstock was painted to match the body would they have done this for the same $500?
If your headstock was not painted to match the the body originally would they have done this (upgrade) for the same $500?

Thanks
Bill

*** I shipped them the complete bass, neck attached, in a bass guitar soft case (needs to go in a good case because it will be returned in same case and that is good additional protection. The bass came back in a G&L Bass Guitar shipping box, with the soft case inside ***

For the $500 did you get a new set of tuners or did they have to reuse your old ones? (and therefore ask you to ship them)
*** The new neck had new tuners ***

If your bass was new enough to have the serial on the neck did you get the same serial? (can't tell from your photos)
*** The serial number stayed the same from old neck to new neck ***

If your headstock was painted to match the body would they have done this for the same $500?
***
I did not have headstock options on original instrument.
Quote was for a basic neck for the $500.00, a rosewood or maple, clear satin finish, and bone nut. Included sales tax, labor and shipping back.
I do not think you get anything except the default neck for the $500, options like body matching would be extra $. Would need to ask G&L for a quote on those.

Neck is PLEKKED

*** You get the standard neck options for the $500, I think anything that could be included in the base price instrument ****

Thanks

Did they require the old neck to be returned and did you receive it back?

Not required by G&L, but I sent the the complete instrument back, old neck attached to body.

G&L sending the old neck back is not part of the standard deal for the $500.

I wouldn't have wanted the old neck back anyway, it was so bad it would only be useful as firewood.

But if you had kept the old neck you could have sold the tuners to offset the cost of the new neck.

What would they be worth? You can buy brand new tuners for $18 each, that would be $72 for a new unused set. How much for used ones that didn't look all that great..... probably $8 or $9 at best, so less than $40 out of $500. Combined with hassle and time to sell them. To me, not worth the time and effort to do.
