Series 750 L-1000

OMG!!! Mode, that is. This is the forum for a true G&L monster, the L-1000. Simple, passive, and huge, the Wunkay speaks volumes for the G&L sound.

Series 750 L-1000

As the proud owner of a new Series 750 L-2500, I was excited to find out about the introduction of the Series 750 L-1000! Looks amazing,, but suffers, imho, from the same malidy as my L2500 - a 1.775" nut width. With all the care they took to upsize the bridge and design a new bigger, rounder body for the 750, why would they leave the small nut?? I know that G&L have historically built basses with the medium spacing,, which is why I never consider one until the introduction of the 750. I see that they're using a 1 7/8" but on the Kiloton 5, so it's not a foreign concept.

Hoping they'll offer the 1 7/8" as an option at the very least in future.

You might take a close(r) look at the L-1000 Series 750 specifications, which like all the Series 750 basses, lists 1.78" as the nut width.

Again, take a close(r) look at the Kiloton 5 specs. Like all the non-Series 750 5 string basses, it has a 1.75" nut.

Hoping they'll offer the 1 7/8" as an option at the very least in future.

Well, they're way ahead of you.

Yes,,1.78", which isn't the same as 1 7/8". 1.78 is roughly 1 3/4". 1 7/8" is roughly 1.85".

Also,, yes. The Kiloton 5 spec is 1.78",, but I've seen several new ones for sale on Reverb that include the spec sheet that accompanies the individual bass and it clearly states it has a 1 7/8" nut

G&L Kiloton 5, Jet Black Frost / Ebony. https://reverb.com/item/53358748-g-l-ki ... t=53358748 :mrgreen:

This is why I thought I'd check with knowledgeable people online about G&L.

<shaking head...>

This is kind of typical G&L. We have published info to work with and then we find these sorts of things. I'd guess that this one was a custom one-off built for someone "in the know". Kind of makes things exciting for us.

If you're new to G&L, you may find things like this from time to time. If you start delving into the old instruments, even more variability will become apparent.

Not trying to be argumentative, but there are several K5s on Reverb with the same spec that seem to be stock items;. Planet Bass, Drum City Guitar Land, etc. Is it possible the person entering the info on the direct sheets is simply entering 1 7/8" instead of 1.78" because they don't the difference or are just entering a slash where a period should be used?

At any rate,, I'm still hoping for a full 1 7/8" nut at some point. As I said before, from my point is view (and several others I've spoken to online) it's really an oversight, given the pains obviously taken to uniformly upsize the design.
