Volume between modes

Volume between modes

Postby Barnesy » Tue Nov 05, 2019 6:45 pm

I have an 81 that I just obtained and was wondering about the switch locations. My understanding on the it would be neck to bridge would be series/single coil/single coil with bass from second coil? My middle position of single is crazy louder than either of the other settings. I would figure from experience that the humbucker setting should be louder. Is this normal or am I tracing down an issue?

Okay so I found the issue by using the wiring diagrams on here. Looks like the switch was replaced and wired wrong. The wrong terminal was left blank so I fixed it and now I get the "boosted" setting on the bridge position. Yay. Now to get the truss rod spacers on to get the neck to adjust. :)

Welcome!

Be REALLY careful here. If the neck doesn't adjust and you're still cranking on the adjuster, it's possible to crush the wood under the washers (even more) and cause a fingerboard split between the nut and 1st fret. The chances of this happening are slim but they exist, so be careful.
