It's a sad day for Wunkay lovers

OMG!!! Mode, that is. This is the forum for a true G&L monster, the L-1000. Simple, passive, and huge, the Wunkay speaks volumes for the G&L sound.

Supposedly G&L discontinued the L-1000 and L-1005 basses today.

Sad day indeed, though I did kind of wonder how long they were going to run. I didn't have any inside info, but it had more of an experimental feel than anything else.

That is pretty sad. I have been watching the factory output page for a while, mustering up the courage to pull the trigger on a new one.
I don't know how the new ones play compared to the old. I had one of the limited run BABP ones for a bit and, to my ears and hands, the 1980-82 ones were better.
Guess I'll have to see if any of the empress ones come on the used market.
