Still working on this....

I am looking to upgrade the head, which is G&K 400RB that I use for power only.

I use a Sansamp BDDI as a pre

...and lately a modified orange squeezer to compress/boost it a tad...(it's in a strange home made box that I will make a pic of sometime ;-) late gen originals look like this:

I just got a Altec-Lansing 31 band equalizer that I may wire in:

For cabs I use Bill Fitzmaurice designs... A DR250 top (new ones are cooler looking than mine):

and a T39 sub woofer on the bottom:

Great thing about the BFD cabs is that they don't need much power to drive them, which is how I have been able to get by with my underpowered amp...

Hey glbass, did you happen to play through the Carbine 2x12 combo before going with your separates? If so, just wondering what your thoughts are about the two setups and why you went with separates.

Hi Chris;
Welllll, No. They had the 2x12 cab in stock along with a 1x15 cab. I could honestly only afford one or the other. Mainly because I bought the M6 Carbine head the day before. :roll: I have always liked 2x12 cabs. It's what I started on many moons ago, and I just like the sound of 12's. I didn't really like the Marshall 410 cab, sooooo, I bought the 2x12 Mesa cab. I'm so glad I did. My SB-2 sounds great going through that half stack. That was the other thing too, I just like stacks over combos. Here again, it's what I started with. G&L basses are it for me. The Mesa brand is it for me for amps. I tried my SB-2 through a Mesa M3 Combo 1x12. WOW, Great sound. I had a Fender Bassman 150 Combo 1x12 that didn't come close to the M3 1x12 Mesa Combo. The Fender combo is 150 watts and The M3 Combo is 300 watts @ 4 ohms. 165 Watts @ 8 ohms. I hope I didn't stray to far from your question. I'm a for real old roadie, good gear gets me all jacked up! If the 1x12 M3 Combo sounded that good, can only imagine the 2x12 M6 Combo must be a KILLER. Which ever 2x12 Mesa you may go for, the sound I think would be equal.

I use a Yamaha PB-1 bass preamp, and an SWR Stereo 800 power amp feeding an Eden 210T and an Eden 115. The PB-1is an astonishingly good tone generator. I also have an SWR Grand Prix preamp, which is a good unit, but not as warm and organic as the PB-1.

These days I play through various Gallien-Krueger amps (1001RB-II & MB2-500 heads, MBS-III and Backline 10 combos), a Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 head, and an old SWR Workingmans 12. Cabs for the heads are Avatar Neo 2X10 and 1X12 and an Epifani PS-112, in various configurations. I also have a Trace Elliot V300 head, but despite the fact it's not getting much use these days, I ain't selling it :lol: .
