I was curious as to what compressors any of you use with your G&l? Has anyone tried the bbe maxcom?

I've been using a Ovni Smoothie pedal. Not being a comp guy I find it easy to use and really like it.

I have an old Trace Elliot Dual Band bass comp. Been on the board for about 20 years. It's great!

Recently picked up a 1990 BOSS LM-2B Limiter. The brown one. I really like it, too. Setting the threshold around 6, the enhance knob around 1-2 and the level to match (somewhere from 11-1 depending on the bass) makes for a nice, subtle harnessing of the peaks.

I don’t always use my pedalboard, but when I do, the Rothwell Lovesqueeze is always on. Does everything a compressor should do, and NONE of the things it shouldn’t. No loss of tone, bottom end, or squishing your sound. Wish I’d found this pedal 20 years ago. Three-knobs, so simple a drummer could use it...

Used to run through a dbx in a rack. Now? I trust FOH to do the right thing.

Still, I would be open to suggestions on which pedal might be a great limiter to stick in front of the d.i. and amp.

It's all based on your budget and how selective you are with tone. My Boss LM2B does a perfect job with easy limiting, but it's not entirely transparent. My Trace Compressor is more transparent, but also large and sort of hard to find.
For ease of procurement and size, the current MXR M87 and Boss BC1X pedal compressors are pretty nice.

Resurrecting this thread with my $0.02:

I use a Demeter Compulator when I'm recording. It's nice and transparent and complements the bass really nicely. I also have a brown Boss Limiter and EBS Multicomp, but the Demeter is the one I always reach for.
